Carrier dimensional pricing means a single oversized box can sometimes cost more than two reasonable boxes shipped separately. Multi-Package Split is PackMate's automatic comparison.
How it works
- PackMate runs the standard pack plan to find the smallest single-box solution.
- It then splits items by volume into two buckets and packs each bucket separately.
- Both options are priced against your shipping tariffs.
- If the 2-box total beats the single-box total, Pack station shows a side-by-side comparison with the savings in euros.
When does it kick in?
Multi-Split is most valuable for orders with 1 large item plus several small ones, or for orders that hit a carrier price-step boundary (e.g., 'parcel up to 30cm' vs 'parcel up to 60cm').
If the savings are zero or negative, the single-box recommendation stays — no false-positive splits.
API access
Multi-Split is also available via REST (`POST /api/v1/calculate/multi-split`) and via the MCP tool `calculate_multi_split` for AI-assistant integrations. Both require Pro plan.
